Unknown Artist, IV Style (55-79 A.D.) Pompeii
This picture, detached from a yellow painted wall, represents one of the many examples of Pompeiian painting recovered in recent years portraying the myth of Narcissus, the youth who, on falling in love with his own reflection in the water, finds death in the attempt to follow and embrace his image. The iconographic theme that has been dealt with in this case Narcissus sitting on a rock, created in the late Hellenistic period.
