Detached from the North wall of the large vaulted area (5) in 1980, decorated in the IV style, this fresco depicts the encounter between Ariadne and Dionysius on the island of Naxos, in the presence of old Silenus, a satyr. In the background Theseus’s ship, with the prow facing out to sea, can be seen abandoning the island and the fair maid.
